Safe from the first moment

Meeting new people in an unfamiliar city should feel good, not anxious. This page explains what we do and what you should watch for.

What we do

Everyone is a real person

Before anyone can see you or be introduced to you, they have passed a short selfie check. Fake profiles and AI personas pretending to be people have no place in Haminja.

Location, only as much as needed

Your coordinates are never given to anyone, only a rounded distance. Distances under a kilometre are jittered so nobody can find you with a few searches. Only people who share their own location can see you in "nearby".

You decide what is seen

Every photo has three modes: for everyone, only after an introduction, or matching-only and never shown. After-introduction photos are blurred until a mutual yes, and on reveal they carry a subtle viewer mark so a screenshot is never free.

First messages are screened

A conversation opens only after both sides say yes. The first three messages of every conversation are screened for harassment, scams and requests for phone numbers or money. Report and block are always one tap away, and a sender can delete a message for both sides within 30 minutes.

Protecting users aged 15 to 17

In the EU, Haminja is for 18 and over only (Telegram's own terms). Outside the EU, teenagers aged 15 to 17 can join; for them Haminja is a different product:

  • A fully separate pool

Teens see only teens and are introduced only to teens. Adults never see a teen in "nearby", introductions or search, and vice versa. Under 18 there is only a friendship mode, location is city-level only, and albums are hidden until a mutual yes.

  • Real age, not just declared

Date of birth plus age estimation from the selfie. Someone who looks adult but declares under 18 is blocked and flagged. Someone who looks under 18 but declares adult gets no contact until ID verification. Under 15 is refused.

  • Supervised mode

By default there is no contact between adults and teens at all. If it is ever enabled for a friendly, public context such as a game night, every message in that conversation is screened in real time, the adult is told the chat is supervised, and media, links and contact details are blocked.

  • Instant stop

In any conversation involving a teen, every message is checked before delivery: sexual content, requests for images, moving the chat elsewhere, gifts and money, asking for secrecy from family, age probing. An inappropriate message never reaches the teen; in serious cases the conversation is closed instantly for both sides, the teen sees a calm card with a report button and help lines, and the adult account is suspended and permanently closed after human review. If the screening system is unavailable, messages wait and are not delivered.

  • The companion in teen mode

No romantic coaching, no sexual topics, more safety education; it encourages involving a trusted adult, never helps arrange in-person meetings, and never discloses a teen's city or school.

  • Less data, shorter retention

For teens no precise location is stored, the companion sends no unprompted messages, and every retention period is halved.

Parents: if you have a question about your teen's account or want to report something, write to safety@haminja.club. Our full child-safety policy and risk assessments (UK Online Safety Act, DSA Article 28) will be published here before public launch. [[CHILD_SAFETY_POLICY_LINK]]

Patterns to watch for

Most scams follow the same pattern on every platform. Our systems catch many of them, but the best protection is you.

  • Wants your private chat or number right away

"Message me on my own Telegram" or "give me your number" in the first messages. The real reason: outside Haminja there is no screening, no reporting, no blocking. Keep the conversation here until you feel you know the person.

  • Money, gifts, investments

Any talk of loans, gift cards, crypto, an "investment opportunity" or a sudden financial problem, especially after a few days of fast intimacy. Someone you just met should never ask you for money or offer you money.

  • Pushing to leave the platform

Links to another app, site or group; "I can't talk freely here". The common pattern: build trust first, then move somewhere without oversight.

  • Too many questions about where you are

Asking about your neighbourhood, workplace, daily route, or pushing for photos of your home and surroundings. We never give out your coordinates; neither should you.

  • Political pressure or requests for documents

Someone who insists on discussing political activity, travel to Iran or your residence status, or asks for pictures of documents. For Persian speakers abroad this pattern is serious: report it.

  • Rushing to meet somewhere private

A first meeting is always in a busy public place, in daylight, with a friend told. Someone who refuses that probably has a reason.

One simple rule: until you have talked a few times inside Haminja itself, no number, no money, no address.

How to report

Reporting is anonymous and the other person is not told. Our team sees every report within 2 hours.

  1. 1

In any conversation or profile, tap "Report / Block": one tap, no long form.

  2. 2

Or type /report in the bot chat, or just tell your companion what happened; it files the report with context.

  3. 3

In an emergency, call your country's police number first (list below), then tell us.

  4. 4

For things not tied to your account (for example someone's data being published in another channel) email safety@haminja.club.
